ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A 24-year-old man pleaded not guilty to hitting a young girl in the head with a glass bottle and slashing her with it because she got in his way.
According to the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office, on April 25, an 8-year-old girl was searching for a water fountain in a restaurant when she came across Nichalas San Souci. San Souci allegedly broke a beer bottle over her head and “sliced her neck” with it. The victim went to the hospital and needed 19 stitches.
On March 16, the district attorney’s office announced that a grand jury had indicted San Souci on charges of child abuse resulting in great bodily harm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Prior to the interaction, San Souci and the victim were strangers.
KOAT-TV reports. San Souci claimed he attacked the girl because “she got in my way.”
San Souci is being held at the Bernalillo County Jail without bond.
