OHA problems with City View residents' move-out packets

OMAHA – OHA has distributed move-out packets to tenants in City View Apartments who use vouchers. These packets allow tenants to terminate their lease and find new housing.

  • Omaha Housing Authority has stopped making payments to City View, this does not penalize the tenants.
  • Move out packets which allow the tenants to break their lease have been issued.
  • Currently, 24 households in the apartment are looking for a new home.

Residents told KMTV on Thursday that the elevators are not working, the stairs are flooded, and these issues can be added to the already long list of problems, such as unsanitary conditions inside.

As of April 1st, OHA had stopped making payments to City View for voucher tenants because the apartment failed inspections and the property owner had not attempted to fix the problems. According to Joanie Balk, CEO of the Omaha Housing Authority.

Although portions of the rent have been suspended, tenants have not been penalized. Thanks to the agreement between the housing authority and the building owner.

“It provides the tenant with the appropriate protections which they are afforded because their landlord, their property owner is not fulfilling their side of the portion, which is providing safe, affordable housing for them,” according to Balk.

According to Balk, OHA has issued move-out packets, allowing tenants to terminate their lease and find new housing.

KMTV learned that 24 households in the apartment complex are actively looking for a new home.

KMTV also learned that the North Omaha Community Partnership is providing resources for residents using vouchers at City View, including moving assistance for those who are unable to leave due to broken elevators.
