A woman’s head was allegedly severed Wednesday when a man began attacking people with an ax on a college campus in Poland.
According to Polish police, a man was detained after killing one person with an ax at Warsaw University.
“Police detained a man who entered the University of Warsaw campus. One person died, and another was taken to the hospital with injuries, according to a Warsaw Police statement on X.
The incident occurred around 1:40 p.m. local time, when a 22-year-old man entered the campus.
“One person died, and another was taken to the hospital with serious injuries,” Warsaw police said. “Prosecutors and police are working on the scene. “Actions are in progress.”
According to private broadcaster Polsat News, a woman’s severed head and an ax were discovered at the school.
In a statement, the Rector of the University of Warsaw said an employee was “brutally murdered” and a guard was “seriously injured.”
“The perpetrator has been apprehended. We extend our deepest condolences and sympathy to the family and loved ones,” the school stated.
The school has declared Thursday, May 8, as a day of mourning.
A spokesperson for the district prosecutor’s office told the news outlet that a female university administrative employee died on the scene, while a security guard was injured and taken to the hospital in critical condition.
