The Omaha Police Foundation celebrates officers with an annual luncheon

The Omaha Police Foundation held its annual luncheon to honor officers, including Officer Kerrie Orozco, who was killed in the line of duty ten years earlier.

To commemorate the tenth anniversary of Officer Orozco’s death, former officers who worked with her paid her a video tribute at the luncheon.

Orozco died in May 2015 while on duty, responding to a call after shots were fired.

“Her situation, her death, was a national incident for this country,” Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer stated.
“That is what I enjoy about Omaha.” They remember their first responders, especially the fallen.”

Orozco and other officers will be honored with a ceremony and candlelight vigil at OPD Headquarters next week as part of National Police Week.

The annual luncheon also recognized nearly 40 officers and staff members for their community service and lifesaving efforts.

Four other officers were also recognized for their bravery and dedication.

Sgt. Ryan Carrera, Officers Aaron Dice, Brian Diminico, and John Dloughy. They all received the Officer of the Year Award for their efforts in the Ramblewood neighborhood following the Arbor Day tornadoes.
