Three more fighters on the run after a group of ten inmates escaped from a New Orleans jail have been apprehended, authorities announced Monday.
Authorities initially announced that Lenton Vanburen had been arrested in Baton Rouge and was back in custody.
“Vanburen was originally incarcerated on charges of parole violation, possession of firearm by felon, and illegal carrying of a weapon,” Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill wrote on X.
He will face additional charges for his escape.
According to the Louisiana State Police, Leo Tate and Jermaine Donald were arrested in Walker County, Texas, by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
According to Huntsville Police in Texas, Donald and Tate led law enforcement officers from multiple agencies on a high-speed chase before being apprehended.
“Leo Tate and Jermaine Donald were arrested on May 26th after leading law enforcement officers from several agencies on a high-speed chase through the Huntsville area,” the department wrote on its Facebook page. “The pursuit ended near US 190 and Geneva, where both subjects were taken into custody.”
Donald was originally charged with second-degree murder, aggravated battery, felon in possession of a firearm or weapon, and obstructing justice.
Tate was incarcerated on charges of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, felon possession of a firearm or weapon, illegal weapon carrying, motor vehicle theft, and multiple drug counts.
Donald and Tate are now facing additional charges in connection with their escape.
The three were among ten inmates who escaped from their Orleans Parish jail on May 16.
As of Monday, eight of the ten escaped inmates had been apprehended. The most recent inmate arrest prior to Vanburen’s capture was Corey Boyd, who was taken into custody last week. Kendell Myles, Robert Moody, Dkenan Dennis, and Gary Price are the other inmates who have been recaptured.
In addition, 13 people were arrested for allegedly assisting the escapees. Authorities announced Monday that Diamond White, 21, the latest accomplice, was arrested for assisting Antoine Massey, who remains at large.
Lenika Vanburen (28), Patricia Vanburen (18), Tyshanea “Minnie” Randolph (27), Lenton Vanburen Sr. (47), and Angel McKey (40) were all arrested over the weekend.
A source confirmed to Fox News that Vanburen Sr. is the father of Lenton Vanburen Jr.
Two others, Casey Smith and Cortnie Harris, have been arrested for allegedly assisting the escapees. Another woman, Connie Weeden, 59, allegedly gave Donald money via a cellphone app.
She has been charged with one felony count of accessory after the fact.
The remaining inmates on the run include:
- Antoine Massey, 32, is charged with domestic abuse, including strangulation, vehicle theft, and parole violation.
- Derrick Groves, 27, faces three counts of attempted second-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, and battery on a correctional facility employee.
Authorities have reminded the public that these men are armed and dangerous.
