Aldi to Open 18 New Stores in Florida, Expanding Discount Grocery Reach

Aldi, the beloved discount grocery chain often praised as “better than Trader Joe’s,” is set to open 18 new stores across Florida this year, bringing more savings and convenience to shoppers.

Major Expansion Plans for 2025

The 18 new Florida locations are part of Aldi’s ambitious plan to open 225 stores nationwide in 2025, marking the largest expansion in the company’s history.

Aldi recently completed converting hundreds of former Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores to their signature smaller, efficient format. Around 220 of these stores will be fully converted by 2027.

New Store Openings Across Florida

The new Aldi stores will serve major cities, including Fort Lauderdale and Ocala, where a store is opening on Thursday, June 5.

To celebrate, the first 100 customers at the Ocala store will receive gift bags with popular Aldi products and gift cards. There will also be a chance to win a $500 gift card during the opening weekend.

Matt Thon, Aldi’s regional vice president, emphasized the company’s commitment to low prices and quality products, stating shoppers can save up to 36% on an average household shopping list.

Already Open Aldi Locations in Florida

Several Aldi stores, many converted from Winn-Dixie locations, have already opened in Florida this year, including:

  • Apollo Beach
  • Avon Park
  • Deltona
  • Fort Walton Beach
  • Jacksonville
  • Lakeland
  • Lithia
  • Panama City
  • Panama City Beach
  • Pensacola
  • Port St. Lucie
  • Quincy
  • Tampa

Aldi’s Acquisition of Winn-Dixie and Harveys

In early 2025, Aldi acquired around 400 stores across Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida. About 75% of those are in Florida, greatly increasing Aldi’s presence in the state.

Aldi CEO Jason Hart said, “With the acquisition, we will serve even more communities in the Southeast, bringing us closer to customers in a region with strong demand for affordable, quality groceries.”

Fans Compare Aldi to Trader Joe’s

Aldi continues to enjoy strong fan support, with some shoppers claiming it surpasses Trader Joe’s. One Facebook user boldly declared, “Unpopular opinion, Aldi is better than Trader Joe’s! Ok, Bye!”

Others agreed, praising Aldi’s relaxed pace and product selection over Trader Joe’s crowded aisles and large flower sections.
