City View tenants are given weeks to move out

OMAHA – According to the North Omaha Community Partnership, tenants at City View have until June 30 to vacate. Organizations are providing relocation assistance and assisting residents in finding a new home.

  • City View tenants have until June 30 to move.
  • Organizations are proving help moving and finding housing options.
  • Currently there 127 tenants still in the building.

“I am not sure where I am going to go,” Sabrina Worley said after learning she might have to leave her apartment by June 30.

Worley is one of 127 city view residents who have been informed that they must vacate their apartments by the end of the month, according to the North Omaha Community Partnership. She and the other residents of the building are now forced to look for new housing.

“Being that is we are already into June, I do not think June 30 is possible at all,” Worley informed us.
KMTV spoke with Worley over the phone because the elevators have been out for eight weeks and she is having difficulty getting down from the eleventh floor.

The North Omaha Community Partnership stated that they are aware that many residents are stuck due to the elevators being out, and that volunteers will assist people in moving their belongings.

However, Worley believes that moving out is only one aspect of a larger issue, and she is unsure how she will afford a new home.

“The people that are still here do not have that kind of money, they do not have a startup deposit, they do not have startup utilities, we are all in the same boat, we do not have that money to drop just because we move out of here,” she told me.
So, on Monday and Tuesday, several groups will consult with tenants about housing options.

The organizations are also working to find homes for those who are unsure where they will go.

“That is definitely going to be a hurdle but with the plans in place and speaking with landlords and using the incentive program, i think we will get through that part and ultimately get all the tenants rehoused but some will be more difficult than others,” Mease, Tamika’s executive director, said.

I also spoke with the Omaha Housing Authority, who informed me that there are still 20 households on vouchers in the apartment.
Ten people have already found a place. Oha says it is meeting with the others to assist them in their search.

Residents and local groups claim that the deadline was set by the building’s owner, the bank. KMTV reached out to the bank to confirm this and is waiting for a response.
