OMAHA, Nebraska (WOWT) – For over a decade, Robert Wagner and his non-profit group, “Keeping North Omaha Safe for Everyone,” or KNOSE, trekked across the metro to collect toys for children over the holiday season.
The event is called “Toy Trek”.
This year, Wagner collaborated with the Omaha Police Officers’ Association for the 12th season, adding the Grinch for some extra excitement.
This year’s trek was different.
Police officers were present, loading up beds for youngsters. Twenty-five of them are twins and queens. No, that does not rhyme.
“Every now and then we get a bed, you know, somebody posted on Facebook, ‘It’s free if you want it’, and so many people ask me for beds,” Wagner told me. “I’m like ‘Man, you know is somebody wants a used bed, there’s a real need for it,’ so I’m like instead of raising money for toys we can get beds.”
The police want to help; they are also human people, and they want the community to know they are always available.
“We like to support, and I think it just shows a different side of our officers, and a different side of the police, that this is our community, too, and we’re here to help,” Omaha Police Officers’ Association Vice President Dan Martin said.
But the villain of the story, disguised up as St. Nick, slips in, his heart still too tiny, and steals bedding staked in the U-Haul.
“Just trying to help people, you know, tough times,” Wagner exclaimed. “Give them something to look forward to for the holidays.”
The cops will not let the youngsters down; they will get their beds back.
They jump inside their cruisers, Able-1 flies overhead, and the Grinch never leaves their sight.
The chase has begun, and it is not long until the cops arrive.
Officers Winters and Lee handcuffed the Grinch, who was now sitting in the rear seat.
He is still a foul one.
The beds will now be delivered to the youngsters in need, the Grinch has been arrested, and the cops may now have their special donut feast.
