On Christmas Day, a day after landing Dane Key, the Nebraska Cornhuskers received some huge news through the transfer portal.

Even on Christmas Day, the college football transfer portal remains active, with the Nebraska Cornhuskers adding to their roster.

On Christmas Eve, the Cornhuskers earned a significant boost to their offense with the signing of former Kentucky wide receiver Dane Key, and the next day,

Matt Rhule’s program added another key piece to the portal with the announcement of Idaho defensive back Andrew Marshall’s commitment on X.

The video started with Marshall clutching a football while wearing an Idaho sweater and then switched to him wearing a Nebraska jumper.

Marshall was a three-star high school talent who attended Eleanor Roosevelt in Northern California, according to On3 rankings.

Marshall played the previous two seasons at Idaho, where he recorded 66 tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and six pass deflections.

He originally chose Idaho over Hawaii, but has now made the huge switch to the huge Ten Conference.

Marshall is expected to compete for a starting role with the Cornhuskers after earning Big Sky first-team all-conference honors last season. He is also widely considered as one of the best defensive backs in the FCS.

Nebraska has also added former Oklahoma linebacker Dasan McCullough and Georgia safety Justyn Rhett in recent days, indicating that the defense would see significant reinforcements this cycle.

The Cornhuskers have previously landed Cal WR Nyziah Hunter in the portal, so there will be a lot of fresh faces in Lincoln in 2025.

Nebraska is prepping for Saturday’s Pinstripe Bowl against Boston College at Yankee Stadium, but they have performed admirably in the portal thus far.

Despite finishing 6-6 this season, the Nebraska Cornhuskers had their best season since 2016, when they went 9-6.

They still have one game left this season, against Boston College in the Pinstripe Bowl on December 28 at Yankee Stadium, but most of the focus has been on what comes next.

Fortunately for any Nebraska fan, particularly quarterback Dylan Raiola, this has meant beefing up the offense for the near future.

In this case, like many others, the Cornhuskers have placed a strong emphasis on the transfer portal and just earned a pledge from wide receiver Dane Key, who spent the previous three years with the Kentucky Wildcats.

Kay had 126 receptions, 1,870 yards, and 13 touchdowns in three years at Kentucky, so this might be a significant addition to the Cornhuskers’ attack.

Nebraska’s offensive productivity in 2024 was unimpressive, which is one of the reasons the club failed to win more games despite allowing only 19.8 points per game.

In college football, the Cornhuskers were 66th in passing yards per game (228.1), 20th in completion percentage (65.6%), 63rd in passing first downs per game (10.3), and 98th in points per game (23.8).

Key now has the ability to become Raiola’s favorite target, the crown gem of Nebraska’s 2024 recruiting class and 247Sports’ No. 2 quarterback.
