A Texas man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his mother after she refused to give him her wallet, according to authorities.
According to a news release from the Houston Police Department, Joseph Anthony Abreu, 35, is accused of breaking into a Houston home and demanding his mother’s wallet on Saturday afternoon, January 4. When the mother refused, Abreu stabbed her, according to police.
According to the release, paramedics responded to the home and transported the 58-year-old woman — who police did not identify — to a hospital, where she was reported to be in stable condition.
Police said Abreu fled the scene before officers arrived, but he was apprehended and arrested the next day. He is charged with aggravated assault on a family member and burglary with the intent to commit another felony.
It is unclear whether Abreu has entered a plea or hired an attorney to speak on his behalf.
