If you create music or art on a template, your works may lose that distinctive quality that defines your work. If all your songs on an album fill a template are you relying too much on pop hits to carry you? If your movie script is using one of the master plots, you have to make it distinctive in other ways, much like Wes Anderson’s aesthetic choices. Bands have to sound amazing live if their albums sound too similar from one to the next.
