Houston leads the all-time series, 6-3. Last season, Houston defeated BYU 75-68 in their first Big 12 matchup.

Houston has won five consecutive games and six of its past seven, including a 60-47 victory against Oklahoma State in the Cougars’ Big 12 opener on Monday.

BYU, under by first-year coach Kevin Young, is also on a winning streak, having won five of its previous six games, including a 76-56 victory against Arizona State in its Big 12 opener on Tuesday.

Richie Saunders, a junior forward, leads BYU in scoring with 13.9 points per game and recently scored 30 points in a win over Arizona State. Freshmen guard Egor Demin and forward Kanon Catchings are second and third on the squad in scoring, averaging 12.2 and 11.2 points per game.

Houston’s best scorer is graduate guard LJ Cryer, who averages 15.1 points per game, with junior guard Emanuel Sharp coming in second at 13.7 points. Graduate forward J’Wan Roberts scored the team’s first double-double of the season in Monday’s victory over Oklahoma State, scoring 20 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
