In a tragic and shocking incident on Saturday night, an elderly woman was fatally stabbed with scissors, and another woman was seriously wounded in a violent roommate dispute in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.
The attack has left the community in shock as authorities investigate the cause of the violent altercation.
Stabbing Incident at Ebbets Field Apartments
Police responded to a 911 call at the Ebbets Field Apartments located at 1700 Bedford Ave. in Brooklyn shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Saturday. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 74-year-old woman with multiple fatal stab wounds to her head and arms.
Another 72-year-old woman was found with severe slashes to her back and arms. Both victims had been stabbed with scissors.
Attack and Arrest of Suspected Roommate
The suspected attacker, a 43-year-old female roommate, was found barricaded inside the apartment. Law enforcement sources reported that officers had to force entry by kicking down the door to arrest the woman. The attack was believed to have stemmed from a dispute between the roommates, sources said.
The 43-year-old woman was taken into custody at the scene and is now considered a person of interest in the case. Neighbors stated that the alleged attacker had moved into the apartment only five months prior.
According to witnesses, a man who lived with the women was seen banging on the barricaded door, shouting, “Let me in!” before the police arrived.
Neighbor Reactions to the Tragedy
Diana Harris, a tenant at the apartment complex, described the victims as “very nice people” and expressed shock over the violence. Her niece, Anissa Christian, called the stabbings “senseless” and added, “I thought it was a normal argument between adults, but some adults take it too far. Clearly, they don’t have a heart for the elderly people who live in the house.”
Victims and Medical Response
Both victims were rushed to Kings County Hospital. The 74-year-old woman was later pronounced dead, while the 72-year-old woman was listed in stable condition. The identity of the deceased woman is being withheld by the NYPD pending family notification.
Investigation and Custody of Suspect
The 43-year-old female roommate is currently being questioned at the 71st Precinct station house as police continue to investigate the deadly attack.
Authorities are working to determine the circumstances that led to the tragic altercation and whether the stabbing was premeditated or a result of escalating tension between the roommates.
