An Alabama woman, Amanda Morgan, 39, has been arrested following the tragic death of her 14-year-old son, who was found dead in their home under suspicious circumstances.
Authorities have charged Morgan with murder and aggravated child abuse after a months-long investigation revealed signs of neglect and mistreatment.
Death of 14-Year-Old Boy
The incident occurred on October 8, 2025, when officers from the Mobile Police Department responded to a call at Morgan’s residence. Upon arrival, they discovered her 14-year-old son dead, with signs of neglect apparent in the home.
Investigators later found that Morgan had left her two children, both of whom have autism, home alone for extended periods, contributing to the neglect.
Conditions at the Home
Testimony at Morgan’s bond hearing on Wednesday highlighted the dire conditions of the home. The residence was reportedly in a state of disrepair, with no air conditioning, no running water, and a severe infestation of insects and human waste.
The autopsy report revealed that the 14-year-old boy died from “accidental strangulation,” with a blanket found wrapped around his neck.
Additionally, the surviving 16-year-old child was hospitalized for malnutrition, further underscoring the severity of the neglect. A witness at the hearing testified that Morgan would often leave the children alone overnight for “extended periods of time.”
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Following the investigation, Morgan was charged with the murder of her son and aggravated child abuse. A judge set her bond at $40,000 for the abuse charge and $400,000 for the murder charge.
Morgan remains in custody at the Mobile County Metro Jail, where she will be arraigned on March 24, 2026.
The judge also ordered that Morgan have no contact with her surviving child, who is currently in the care of authorities.
