Christopher Milke, a 53-year-old man from Nebraska, has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of murdering his longtime partner, 52-year-old Tammy Leslie, and holding their two children hostage.
The tragic incident occurred in September 2024, and Milke’s sentence was delivered in February 2026. He will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
The Murder and Hostage Situation
The crime took place on the night of September 8, 2024, when Milke shot his partner, Tammy Leslie, multiple times in the head and chest. Police were alerted after the couple’s 19-year-old daughter made a 911 call around 1:30 a.m. When she arrived home, Milke told her that he had killed her mother.
At the time of the shooting, the couple’s 11-year-old son was also at home. He heard four gunshots and was ordered by Milke to hand over his phone and stay in the living room. Milke also took the older daughter’s phone when she arrived.
Milke had been sealing the exits of the house for about a month, suspecting Leslie of infidelity, and attempting to prevent her from leaving. During this time, he was reportedly abusing alcohol.
Milke’s Outbursts in Court
At the sentencing, Milke showed no remorse for his actions and repeatedly interrupted Judge Rick Schreiner. Milke claimed that the trial was unfair and that the incident was not murder.
‘I finally killed somebody’: Man murdered his children’s mother then held them hostage inside the house, sealing every exit and taking away their cellphones.
The judge, however, did not tolerate Milke’s outbursts and warned him that he could be removed from the courtroom. The judge also referred to Milke’s own words: “I finally killed somebody,” which Milke had said after the murder when he was getting another beer from the fridge.
The Children’s Escape and Milke’s Arrest
After receiving the call from his daughter, the police decided to wait until 6 a.m. to breach the house. At 6:20 a.m., they safely rescued the two children, and Milke was arrested with a 9 mm pistol in his possession. Tammy Leslie was found dead in the couple’s bedroom.
Conviction and Sentencing
Milke was convicted of several charges, including first-degree murder, kidnapping, false imprisonment, and tampering with physical evidence. The court sentenced him to two life sentences without the possibility of parole, along with several additional decades in prison.
