Princess Kate Middleton kicked off this year’s tiara season in unforgettable fashion, making a regal appearance at the Nigerian State Banquet held at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, March 18, 2025.
The Princess of Wales, 44, exuded sophistication and sparkle as she wore the iconic Lover’s Knot Tiara, a stunning diamond and pearl headpiece originally created for Queen Mary in 1914.
This piece, which is also famously associated with Princess Diana, added a touch of royal history to the evening’s festivities.
A Fashion Homage to Nigeria
Kate’s outfit was a perfect blend of regal elegance and cultural nod, as she paired the tiara with an emerald green gown from the autumn/winter 2021 collection by designer Andrew Gn.
The color choice is believed to be a subtle homage to the Nigerian flag, making a sartorial statement while paying respect to the country’s heritage.
- Sapphire Fringe Earrings that belonged to Queen Elizabeth completed her look, along with a chic Jenny Packham clutch.
- The ensemble was further elevated by the addition of King Charles’ Royal Family Order, the Royal Victorian Order sash, and the Royal Victorian Order star, signifying her status and contributions to the British monarchy.
Prince William’s Suave Look
Prince William, 43, looked every bit the royal in a traditional white tie Windsor tailcoat, accessorized with the Most Noble Order of the Garter Sash and the Lesser George. The couple’s coordinated elegance made a statement as they represented the monarchy at the high-profile event.
Royal Guests and Remarks by King Charles III
Queen Camilla and King Charles III also attended the event, posing for photos alongside Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu. King Charles, 77, gave a heartfelt toast in which he acknowledged the contributions of people of Nigerian heritage in the United Kingdom:
“We in the United Kingdom are blessed that so many people of Nigerian heritage, having chosen Britain as their home, are now at the heart of British life through excelling at the highest levels of business, technology, academia, law, science, sport, literature and the arts, and public service,” Charles said. “So much of Britain’s culture is, in truth, profoundly enriched by Nigeria.”
Kate’s Previous Tiara Appearances
This was not Kate’s first tiara appearance of the year. The last time she was seen wearing a tiara was during the German State Visit in December 2025, where she donned Queen Victoria’s Oriental Circlet, a piece honoring the late monarch’s German-born husband, Prince Albert.
