Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a Democratic representative from Texas, confirmed that a man killed in a police standoff last week had worked as a security guard for her.
Crockett expressed shock and sadness over the death of Diamon Robinson, who had been hired as security under the name Mike King and was tragically involved in a confrontation with Dallas police.
Police Standoff and Shooting Incident
The incident unfolded on Wednesday, March 6, 2026, when Dallas police followed Robinson into a hospital parking lot. According to authorities, Robinson barricaded himself in his car before police used tear gas to force him out. Once he exited the vehicle, Robinson reportedly pulled a weapon, prompting officers to open fire, ultimately killing him.
Police later confirmed that Robinson, 39, had multiple felony warrants, including charges for impersonating a police officer and stolen license plates, as reported by NBC Dallas Fort Worth.
Crockett’s Statement on Robinson’s Death
Rep. Crockett shared her grief and concern, revealing that Robinson had been part of her security team since she took office in 2023. Crockett acknowledged that the security arrangements had been approved, and her team had followed the proper House protocols to hire Robinson, who was known as Mike King.
“We are saddened and shocked by some of the concerning revelations,” Crockett said in her statement. She expressed alarm that Robinson was able to circumvent security vetting processes meant to protect members of Congress, particularly in light of increasing threats against lawmakers.
Unveiling Security Loopholes
Crockett called attention to the security loopholes that allowed Robinson to pass through the hiring system, a system meant to ensure the safety of lawmakers, especially those who face heightened risks.
“This is incredibly alarming, especially for those members who receive high volumes of credible and sophisticated death threats,” she noted. She also highlighted the importance of U.S. Capitol Police taking a larger role in providing security for Congress members.
Capitol Police, which primarily monitors Capitol grounds and handles threats against lawmakers, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Robinson’s Character and Background
Crockett described Robinson’s behavior on her team as respectful, diligent, and committed to protecting others, stating that he had never endangered her team or posed any threat.
She expressed disbelief that the Mike King she knew, who had worked with her for several years, was associated with criminal charges.
“Mike had been in and around our team for years. There was never any reason to suspect that he wasn’t who he held himself out to be,” Crockett said. She also referred to Robinson’s criminal history, which appeared to be limited and did not include violent offenses, stating that she believed in redemption and second chances.
Increase in Threats Against Congress
Crockett’s statement comes amid growing concerns over the escalating number of threats against U.S. lawmakers. According to Capitol Police, threats against Congress have increased for three consecutive years, spiking in 2025 to the highest level in years, with nearly 15,000 cases investigated.
While Capitol Police is tasked with investigating threats to lawmakers, many members coordinate with state and local police or hire their own security when outside Washington, D.C.
