The Final Journey of Sgt. Noah Tietjens

As the procession made its way from Eppley Airfield, a somber police motorcade led the remains of Sgt. Tietjens, guiding him back to the community he served and loved. This powerful tribute to a fallen hero was witnessed by numerous residents and local officials.

Sgt. Tietjens’ Ultimate Sacrifice

Sgt. Noah Tietjens’ death marks a heartbreaking loss for Bellevue. He was among six soldiers killed when his base in Kuwait came under attack two weeks ago. The community, devastated by the news, came out in full force to support Tietjens’ family and pay their respects.

Carter Lake firefighter Iain Rincon, who knew Tietjens through the Creighton University ROTC program, reflected on the tragedy: “I think we are all just shocked and grieving.”

Honoring a Military Hero

Retired Air Force Colonel Robert “Bruce” Mundie, joined by his cycling group, attended the procession to honor the fallen soldier.

“As citizens, you know, the sacrifice our military members make, signing their name on the dotted line, including their life, is something we must acknowledge,” Mundie said. “We’re here to honor his service and sacrifice, as well as that of his family.”

Vietnam-era Air Force veteran Dottie Barickman was also present to salute Tietjens. “Never again will one generation of veterans abandon another,” Barickman shared. “We’re here to salute and celebrate this individual who paid the ultimate sacrifice.”
