Matthew Wing, a 22-year-old junior on the track and field team at Concordia University, tragically lost his life in a car crash on Friday night. The crash also left three other Concordia students injured. The accident occurred on Interstate 49 in Harrisonville, Missouri, at around 10:20 p.m..
Details of the Crash
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Wing and three other Concordia students were traveling northbound in a Toyota Prius when a southbound Ford Explorer swerved into their lane, resulting in a collision. The crash caused the Prius to catch fire, while the Ford Explorer came to rest in the median.
Wing, who was driving the Prius, was killed in the crash. The three other students, also members of the track and field team, were injured. One passenger sustained serious injuries, while the other two had minor injuries. The injured passengers were taken to the hospital for treatment.
University’s Response
In a statement, Concordia University, based in Seward, Nebraska, expressed their sorrow over the loss, writing, “Our Concordia Nebraska family is heartbroken.
We ask for your prayers during this time, for our campus and for the family and friends of the young men involved in this accident, that we can all find comfort in God’s love and healing grace.”
Driver of the Ford Explorer
The driver of the Ford Explorer, a 30-year-old man from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, was also hospitalized with serious injuries. His identity has not been released by authorities.
