Omaha, Nebraska – Eppley Airfield is currently undergoing a massive renovation that will transform the airport into a modern, spacious hub, with the next phases of construction set to open in approximately a year.
Exciting Upgrades to the Airport Layout
The renovations at Eppley Airfield are set to introduce brand-new areas and improve the flow of the airport, making it more intuitive and efficient for travelers.
Omaha Airport Authority CEO Dave Roth and Chief Strategy Officer Steve McCoy recently gave a tour of the ongoing work, showcasing the new construction projects underway.
“Two-thirds of it is brand-new,” said Roth, highlighting the substantial upgrades. The revamped airport will feature an updated layout with ticketing and check-in areas moved upstairs, while arrivals and baggage claim will be downstairs.
A central pavilion will serve as the connection point between these areas, streamlining security and improving the overall flow for passengers.
Improved Passenger Experience
One of the primary goals of the renovation is to enhance the experience for all travelers. McCoy mentioned that the airport will now offer an easier, more intuitive experience, especially for passengers who need to check in a bag or go through security.
The layout will also include more elevators, escalators, and bathrooms, making it more accessible and convenient for everyone.
New Dining and Amenities
After passing through security, passengers will be greeted by new dining options. The renovated terminal will feature spots like Pitch, The Mill Coffee & Tea, and Fernando’s, giving travelers a variety of food choices while they wait for their flights.
Additionally, a new VIP club will be added to provide a relaxing space where passengers can enjoy views of the airfield.
Building for the Future
Roth believes the new and improved Eppley Airfield will reflect Omaha’s growth, stating, “I think this facility is going to be one of those staples that people can come back to and say this is a great city and a great region.”
Timeline for Completion
While parts of the new construction are set to open in roughly a year, the entire renovation project is on track to be fully completed by 2028, further elevating the airport’s status as a key transportation hub in the region.
