La Vista 84th Street development will continue until 2027

The City of La Vista, Nebraska, is currently working on an exciting project that will connect Central Park and Central Park West through a new bridge and trail underpass. The development will improve access between the two areas, benefiting pedestrians and cyclists alike.

Project Details and Lane Restrictions

Construction began on 84th Street between Harrison and Giles in the fall of 2025. The main objective is to build a bridge with an underpass, creating a seamless trail connection between Central Park and Central Park West.

Due to the popularity of the city’s trails, this project is a crucial step in enhancing connectivity between the parks on the east and west sides of the city.

As part of the construction, lane restrictions will shift to the northbound lanes this spring. Southbound lanes will accommodate head-to-head traffic during this phase. The closures and lane restrictions are expected to continue until early 2027.

New Community Pool Planned After Project Completion

The construction of the new bridge and trail underpass led to the demolition of the old community pool. However, city officials have announced that a new community pool will be built on the west side of 84th Street once the current project is completed.

This new pool is part of the broader development to enhance recreational opportunities in the area.

Project Progress and Weather Impact

Despite the challenges of construction, the project has progressed smoothly due to the mild weather this winter. Mitch Beaumont with the City of La Vista expressed excitement about the ongoing work, noting the importance of the trail connections.

“If we found anything in the last five or six years, trails are just so used, so popular, and we needed a connection from the trail network and the parks we have on the east side to what we have on the west side,” Beaumont said.

Timeline and Future Developments

Although closures will continue until early 2027, the city is optimistic about the project’s completion and the improved infrastructure that will follow. Once the bridge and underpass are completed, the new community pool will be a welcome addition to the area, further enhancing the local amenities.
